Leave on the Light

From the Collection:

Say it with Love

Song Synopsis

This song explores the tender space between loss and hope. It speaks to the belief that we will meet again — that we’ll find our way home. Whether it's someone we’ve loved and lost, or a soul who’s walked before us, they can “leave on the light” to guide us forward. A guru is one who brings us from darkness to light. This is an ode to them — and to the light that always waits for us.

Lyrics

Opening

Darkness Comes When You've Lost Your Way

Satan's Waiting To Call It A Day

Hope Ain't Lost When You Turn Towards The Light

Regardless Of Cost You'll Learn What Is Right

If You Ain't Too Sure If This Is The Way

Drop To Your Knees Boy Start To Pray

Listen Real Close In The Answers Will Come

At The End Of The Race No Longer Need Run

Verses

I Remember The Day My Mother Died

Father Called And We Both Just Cried

He Was There By Her Side

As He'd Been For Most His Life

We Both Watched Her Slowly Slip Away

Her Strength Gave Out Day By Day

Nothing To Do But Hold Her Hand

And Talk About The Promised Land

Mother Took This Young Boy In

She Didn't Know His Anger Might Do Her In

But The Love She Gave Never Once Grew Dim

As He Challenged Her Time And Again

 Father Always Tried And Tried

To Keep The Family Close In Christ

But I Strayed Real Wide And I Strayed Real Far

As Soon As I Could Drive A Car

Chorus

We Get Tired And Easily Lost Leave On The Light

I've Traveled Far In This World But I'll Be Coming Home Tonight

4x

Refrain

 Leave On The Light

4x

Ending

The Last Words That I Do Recall

When She Was Headed For That Final Call

I Said That I'd Find Her In The Next Life

She Said She Would Leave On The Light

Backstory of the Song

This song was born from one of the most sacred and painful moments of my life — the passing of my mother.

My father called me when she died. We both just cried. He had been there by her side, as he had been most of his life. I had already watched her begin to slip away — her strength fading day by day. There was nothing left to do but hold her hand and talk with her about the promised land.

In her final days, she carried a kind of bravery I had never seen before — a peace that softened the edge of death. I’ve never known anyone so brave as she was, going toward the light with such grace.

This song is my offering to her spirit — a tribute to her journey home.

She traveled far in this life…
But she’s coming home tonight.
