Cleansing the Pranas, koshas, elements, senses, and subtle systems of the body
1. Prāṇa Śuddhiḥ
prāṇāpānavyānodānasamānāyus me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May my life forces — prana, apana, vyana, udana, and samana — be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
2. Indriya-Manaḥ Śuddhiḥ
vāk-manaḥ-cakṣuḥ-śrotra-jihvā-ghrāṇa-retobuddhy-akṛti-saṅkalpā me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May my speech, mind, eyes, ears, tongue, nose, creative energy, intellect, intentions, and determination be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
3. Aṅga Śuddhiḥ
śiraḥ-pāṇi-pāda-pārśva-pṛṣṭha-udara-ūru-liṅga-upastha-pāyu me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May my head, hands, feet, sides, back, abdomen, thighs, generative organs, and base be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
4. Dhātu Śuddhiḥ
tvak-carma-māṁsa-rudhira-medas-asthi-majjā me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May my skin, muscle, blood, fat, bone, and marrow be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
5. Viṣaya Śuddhiḥ
śabda-sparśa-rūpa-rasa-gandhā me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May the objects of sound, touch, form, taste, and smell be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
6. Bhūta Śuddhiḥ
pṛthivy-āpa-tejo-vāyu-ākāśā me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May the elements of earth, water, fire, air, and ether within me be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
7. Kośa Śuddhiḥ
annamaya-prāṇamaya-manomaya-vijñānamaya-ānandamayā me śuddhyantu |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
May my physical, vital, mental, intellectual, and blissful sheaths be purified.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
8. Īśvara Namaskāraḥ
viviṭyai svāhā |
gṛhapataye svadhā ||
Hail the Lord who permeates all things.
Hail the Divine Creator.
9. Ārādhana of Hara
uttiṣṭha hara lohita-piṅgala-akṣi dehi dehi dādaya |
jyotir ahaṁ virajaḥ vipāpma bhūyāsam svāhā ||
O great Lord of golden hue and reddish eyes, arise within me.
Bless me with purity and light.
I am the effulgent light within; may I be free from disease and sin.
10. Samāptiḥ
oṁ svāhā ||
Hail to Om.
Hail to the Infinite.
